In North-Kivu, a region in eastern Congo along the border with Uganda, the level of violence escalated during the past few weeks. What elements are destabilizing the geopolitical balance of the region? The area traditionally suffers from the presence of numerous armed groups, widespread poverty, the race to exploit the land’s natural resources, and new cases of Ebola virus. This article aims to underline the new factors that play a major role in the current North Kivu.
